What are customs clearance and form 13.20 A for on import?
Last verified: 2026-06-20
Before registration, an imported vehicle must be cleared through customs. The BAZG levies customs duty, automobile tax and VAT and confirms the proper assessment with the assessment certificate on the inspection report form 13.20 A. Issuing this certificate costs CHF 20.
The cantonal road traffic office requires form 13.20 A as proof of proper import. At customs clearance, the 9-digit Stammnummer is additionally assigned by the BAZG and noted on the form.
Without the assessment certificate (form 13.20 A) the vehicle cannot be admitted to traffic — customs clearance is the precondition for registration.
