What applies to the vehicle when changing canton?

A move to a new canton also changes the competence for vehicle registration. The keeper must register the vehicle within 14 days at the road traffic office of the new canton of residence; the current licence plates are exchanged for plates of the new canton.

• Move to another canton: re-registration within 14 days, new licence plates of the new canton.
• Move within the same canton: the licence plate is retained; only the address needs updating.
• Required are, among other things, the registration form and valid proof of insurance.

The address in the driving licence and the registration document must also be updated within 14 days of a move.
