What is the difference between vehicle stock and new registrations?

New registrations (ASTRA product NEUZU) record the vehicles registered for the first time in Switzerland or Liechtenstein in a period — i.e. the inflow of new vehicles. They are published monthly.

The vehicle stock (ASTRA product BEST) comprises all vehicles in circulation on a reference date — a snapshot of the total stock. It too is updated monthly.

New registrations are a flow figure, the stock a stock figure. Imported used vehicles (first registered abroad, then in CH/FL) are reported separately (product GEBR).
